Alchemy and herbalism
Spiritus Mundi is a website for the study and exploration of alchemy, as well as the ancient traditions and modern applications related to it: herbalism, metallurgy, and traditional and alternative medicine.
Much has been written about Alchemy and Herbalism, but little by little, when putting the pieces together and with recent discoveries, it becomes evident that traditional knowledge may have a much older and more surprising origin than previously thought and therefore, also a different future.
Herbalism is more than knowing the active ingredients of plants and their medical applications. As part of a great tradition, it is one of the branches of the ancient tree of knowledge that aims at both our material and spiritual development and our well-being.
Alchemy is about the art of transmutation and spagyrics is about the production of medicines. But things are not as simple or as complex as they seem, what is really needed is to put our hands in the books and in the work.
Learn more about medicinal herbal tinctures: their origin, their types, their use and regulatory framework.
Here you can find the world's largest collection of medicinal plant tinctures, as well as courses, ingredients and other products. Our tinctures are made in an artisanal way, with the best quality ingredients, and maximum hygiene. Their use is for research purposes.
Alchemy can be studied in a self-taught way, however, there is also a tradition where knowledge is passed from generation to generation, from one alchemist to another. We belong to that tradition. We have studied, and continue to study, with teachers from all over the world. We are part of the Alchemy Guild and we attend courses and conferences to continue learning and updating ourselves. Through Spiritus Mundi, the courses and the products we offer, we make the fruit of that tradition available to anyone who requires it.
The main objective of alchemy, the Great Work or Ergon, is the transformation of the alchemist himself. Starting from the principle that "As above, so below; as below, so above", material work is a representation of what must happen in the soul or consciousness to rise and integrate, that is, transmuting with others and with the creator. Alchemical work allows to establish this analogy in a very concrete way: visible to the eye, but at the same time effective for our interior.
But alchemy is not only spiritual. Through very clear technical processes reproducible in the laboratory, materials such as plants, animal products and minerals can be purified to turn them into medicines. This is perhaps one of the most neglected practices today, because at some point in history alchemy morphed into chemistry and spirituality compartmentalized elsewhere. Recovering ancient techniques not only helps us connect with herbalism, metallurgy and traditional medicine, but also lifts the spirit and makes great rediscoveries, which in modern times seem to be forgotten.
