Hesicasmo
El nombre sale de una palabra griega y de su traducción. Los editores de la Filocalía fijan primero el estado: «An advanced state which may be acquired through the pursuit of this path is described as hesychia, a word which not only bears the sense of tranquillity and silence (hence our translation : stillness) but also is linked through its Greek root with the idea of being seated, fixed, and so of being concentrated.» «La Filocalía, texto completo (tr. Cuándo empieza es lo que las voces no dicen igual, y aquí no se concilian. Los editores objetan la datación corriente: «But here a certain caution is needed. La práctica que el libro llama suya es la invocación de un nombre. El glosario da su fórmula y niega de inmediato dos lecturas: «the invocation of the name of Jesus, most commonly in the words, 'Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me' , although there are a number of variant forms. Not merely a 'technique' or a 'Christian mantra', but a prayer addressed to the Person of Jesus Christ, expressing our living faith (q.v.) in Him as Son of God and Saviour.» «La Filocalía, texto completo (tr. El otro movimiento que la tradición describe es hacia dentro y hacia abajo.
