«Vallée y Aubeck — Wonders in the Sky (2010) · p. 158»—.

About the work
30 entries — what the apparatus and scholarship say about it«Source: Jerome Cardan, De Subtilitate Rerum Libri XXI (Nuremberg, in-folio 1550), XIX.»
«Seven "men" appeared before Philosopher Facius Cardan (Fazio Cardano) in his study. According to his son Jerome the story left by his father, a mathematically-gifted lawyer and friend of Leonardo da Vinci, read as follows» — la cadena de transmisión declarada: el padre deja el registro, el hijo lo publica.
«When I had completed the customary rites, at about the 20th hour of the day, seven men duly appeared to me clothed in silken garments resembling Greek togas, and wearing, as it were, shining shoes.»
«The undergarments beneath their glistening and ruddy breastplates seemed to be wrought of crimson and were of extraordinary glory and beauty.» — la descripción del atuendo.
«The taller of them who was of ruddy complexion was attended by two companions, and the second, who was fairer and of shorter stature, by three. Thus in all there were seven.»
«They were about forty years of age, but they did not appear to be aboV$2 thirty.»
«When asked who they were, they said they were men composed, as it were, of air, and subject to birth and death.»
«It was true that their lives were much longer than ours, and might even reach to three hundred years' duration.» — la duración que se adjudican.
«Questioned on the immortality of our soul, they affirmed that nothing survived which is peculiar to the individual...»
«they answered that it was forbidden by a peculiar law under the heaviest penalties for anyone to communicate this knowledge to men» — la prohibición sobre los tesoros: hay ley y hay pena.
«They remained with my father for over three hours.» — la duración de la comparecencia.
«But when he questioned them as to the cause of the universe they were not agreed. The tallest of them denied that God had made the world from eternity. On the contrary, the other added that God created it from moment to moment, so that should He desist for an instant the world would perish.»
«Paracelsus was probably born in 1493, and only two years earlier Facius Cardan had recorded his observation of seven strange visitors directly related to the creatures of the elements» — *Dimensions* la pone en serie con Paracelso y con los Elementales, y fecha esa serie.
«In his book De Subtilitate, Cardan explains that he had often heard his father tell the particular story and finally searched for his record of the event» — dato sobre la COMPOSICIÓN de la obra: el hijo la oyó muchas veces antes de buscar el registro escrito. Solo lo da esta fuente.
«August 13, 1491. When I had completed the customary rites, at about the twentieth hour of the day, seven men duly appeared to me» — la misma frase, con otra fecha delante y «twentieth» en letra donde la otra fuente pone «20th»: son dos transcripciones distintas del mismo pasaje.
«He left no record as to whether their heads were covered.»
«When my father asked them why they did not reveal treasures to men if they knew where they were» — *why* aquí, *if* en la otra transcripción («if they did not reveal treasures»): las dos versiones se conservan. «vallee-dimensions · EPUB p. 28»
«that astonishing little remark made by a sylph to Facius Cardan, which antedates quantum theory by four centuries» — *Dimensions* llama sylph al compareciente; `--buscar "sylph"` sobre *Wonders* da 0 páginas. Las dos nomenclaturas se consignan sin unificar.
«As Jerome Cardan says, "Be this fact or fable, so it stands."»
«The remarkable story of Cardan's dialogue with the two sylphs who disagreed about the nature of the universe summarizes the problem well.»
«The other sylph expressed a theory closer to Islamic occasionalism: the universe is a world of events.»
«Both Cardan and Paracelsus write, like Kirk, that a pact can be made with these creatures and that they can be made to appear and answer questions at will.»
«One fascinating case of transmission of knowledge dates from the year 1491, when the Milanese mathematician Jerome Cardan found himself involved in a visitor encounter.»
«Far from being a fifteenth-century idea, it is an eleventh-century Arabic idea. Did it get to Dr. Cardan via the sylphs, or was it transmitted by more conventional means?»
«There is no other record of it in European scientific and religious literature of the period.»
«what would have been his motive for risking his life to the Inquisition by admitting communion with the sylphs, who were viewed as demons?»
Concepts treated
