For she is a gift and sacrament of God and a divine matter, which deeply and in divers manners was veiled in images by the wise.»

Fama FraternitatisPRINCIPAL

Testimonio público sobre qué lugar ocupa el oro en la obra: «We therefore do by these presents publicly testify, that the true philosophers are far of another mind, esteeming little the making of gold, which is but a parergon;» «Yates — The Rosicrucian Enlightenment (1972) · p. 328». There, although he could have bragged with his art, but specially of the transmutations of metals, yet did he esteem more Heaven, and the citizens thereof, Man, than all vain glory and pomp.» «Yates — The Rosicrucian Enlightenment (1972) · p. 318».

Thomas Vaughan (Eugenius Philalethes)PRINCIPAL

El término del arte, declarado: «Let me tell you then that the period and perfection of magic is no way physical, for this Art Attains the throne of Jove and things divine essays.» «Vaughan — The Works of Thomas Vaughan, ed. Waite (1919) · p. 168». Y los metales comunes fuera del propósito: «The gold and silver of the philosophers are a soul and spirit ; they are living ferments and principles of bodies ; but the two common metals whether you take them in their gross composition or after a philosophical preparation are no way pertinent to our purpose.» «Vaughan — The Works of Thomas Vaughan, ed. Waite (1919) · p. 363».

Jacob BoehmePRINCIPAL

Desde dónde escribe él: «Do not take me for an alchymist, for I write only in the knowledge of the spirit, and not from experience» «Jacob Boehme — Aurora, The Day-Spring (trad. John Sparrow; ed. Dekton Publishing, 2022) · p. 339». Y el término de la obra metálica, juzgado: «And now, when it is almost made, then it has its true virtue and colour, and there is nothing wanting except in this, that the spirit cannot elevate itself with its body into the light, but must remain to be a dead stone;» «Jacob Boehme — Aurora, The Day-Spring (trad. John Sparrow; ed. Dekton Publishing, 2022) · p. 338».

Mary Anne AtwoodPRINCIPAL

Su propia fórmula: «Man is the true laboratory of the Hermetic Art; his life the subject, the grand distillatory, the thing distilling and the thing distilled» «Principe — The Secrets of Alchemy (2013) · p. 113». Y la exclusión de lo material: «Alchemical writers who apparently busied themselves with actual laboratory operations, were, according to Atwood, mere “literal souls” who failed to perceive the hidden truth of alchemy, and were not “real” alchemists at all; they were in fact, in her words, as “blind” as the chemists and other scientists of her day.» «Hanegraaff (ed.) — Dictionary of Gnosis & Western Esotericism, ed. inglés · p. 45».

Carl Gustav JungPRINCIPAL

«The profound darkness that shrouds the alchemical procedure comes from the fact that although the alchemist was interested in the chemical part of the work he also used it to devise a nomenclature for the psychic transformations that really fascinated him.» «Jung — Psychology and Alchemy (1944) · p. 305». Y en corto: «He experienced his projection as a property of matter; but what he was in reality experiencing was his own unconscious.» «Jung — Psychology and Alchemy (1944) · p. 262».

If anyone should be able to induce these qualities in a given parcel of matter, then let him call that matter 'gold'» «Newman — Promethean Ambitions (2004) · pp. 294, 296». Y lo que el arte se propone y a lo que renuncia: «Geber puts it: “our intention is not to follow nature in her principles, nor in the proportion of miscible elements, nor in the manner of their mutual mixture, nor in the equalizing of the thickening heat, for all these things are impossible and unknown to us.”» «Newman — Promethean Ambitions (2004) · p. 90».

Petrus Bonus de Ferrara (según Newman)PRINCIPAL

A qué ciencia pertenece la obra y cuál es su objeto: «Peter says that alchemy works with the intrinsic principle of change in matter, while an architect, for example, does not lead an internal form to perfection, since his building materials have no inherent tendency to become a house.» «Newman — Promethean Ambitions (2004) · p. 101». Y lo que el arte hace y la naturaleza no: «It is impossible for nature to follow art in the generation of the alchemist’s stone.» «Newman — Promethean Ambitions (2004) · p. 103».

Turba PhilosophorumPRINCIPAL

«The envious have laid waste the whole Art with the multiplicity of names, but the entire work must be the Art of the Coin.» «Turba Philosophorum, trad. inglés 1896 · p. 172». Y la definición: «I testify that the definition of this Art is the liquefaction of the body and the separation of the soul from the body, seeing that copper, like a man, has a soul and a body.»

«Rosarium Philosophorum, trad. castellano · p. 28».

Splendor SolisPRINCIPAL

Para qué es el arte: «For unaided Nature does not produce things whereby imperfect metals can in a moment be made perfect, but by the secrets of Our Art this can be done.» For the form of every thing be it living, growing, or metallic, comes into existence by virtue of the interior force in matter—except the human soul.» «Splendor Solis, trad. inglés 1920 · p. 15».

El Tratado de Oro (Museo Hermético)PRINCIPAL

Razona por el fin de la obra: «Now to find the seed you should diligently consider for what purpose you require the Store.» «The Hermetic Museum, tr. Waite (1893) · p. 34» (el troceo imprime Store por Stone), y define la piedra: «These things take to heart. This Stone, I dare to tell thee, is the powerful essence of the metal, and thou must be careful how thou dost obtain it.» «The Hermetic Museum, tr. Waite (1893) · p. 43».

ParacelsoPRINCIPAL

«Paracelso — Obras completas, trad. castellano · p. 94».

Atalanta fugiens (Michael Maier)PRINCIPAL

«Maier — Atalanta fugiens (1617), trad. castellano · p. 185».

Los Secretos Rosacruces (atribuidos a John Dee)PRINCIPAL

Qué es el don y qué hace: «In this (that is to say in this Aurum Potabile) is completed the precious gift of God, which is the Arcanum of all sciences in the world and the incomparable treasure (for as Plato saith) he that hath the gift of God hath the dominion of the world (that is to say of the Microcosm) because he attaineth to the end of riches and hath broke the bonds of Nature, not only for that he hath power to convert all imperfect metals into pure medicine and250 preserve both man and animal in perfect health.»

Qué es la obra, dicho para corregir a los sofistas: «for our work is to make a substance fluid, penetrating and entring, that may have ingress into imperfect Metals: for which cause we do preserve humidity, without which our Stone cannot be penetrative.”» «Newman — Gehennical Fire (1994) · p. 71».

Robert Boyle (según Lawrence Principe)PRINCIPAL

Qué hace valiosa a la obra, en jerarquía entera material: «Boyle in fact noted that i f the Philosophers' Stone "were not an Incomparable Medicine, but were onely capable of transmuting other Metalls into G o l d , " its discovery w o u l d not "much advantage M a n k i n d .» Y la piedra como cuerpo: «This notion of these "higher" supernatural Stones, however, still does not exactly match Boyle's attribution of spirit-attracting power to the otherwise, as Boyle himself notes, "purelly corporeall" Philosophers' Stone.» «Principe — The Aspiring Adept (1998) · p. 213».

Isaac Newton (según William Newman)PRINCIPAL

«On the rare occasions when Newton does take up a reference to God in his alchemical notes, he makes it clear that what interests him is the hidden, materialist meaning of the text. Newton did not read alchemical authors as a means of acquiring spiritual truths; rather, he extracted experimental meaning from them even when they employed the idiom of divinity.» «Newman — Newton the Alchemist (2019) · p. 75».

Las dos condiciones de la obra, dichas como condiciones: «Alchemy, for Zosimus, is an art that can only work if two conditions are met: the technical requirements must be perfect and perfectly understood and the alchemist must have gone through a process of mental preparation or purification to gain knowledge of his real self and his ultimate origin.» «Hanegraaff (ed.) — Dictionary of Gnosis & Western Esotericism · p. 609». Y la prescripción doble: «He recommends practicing alchemy in both a corporeal and spiritual manner, and prescribes spiritual exercises for cultivating virtue through the purification of the soul, and for facilitating the soul’s ascent to the divine realms.» «Grimes — Zosimus of Panopolis (tesis, 2006) · p. 62».

Heinrich Khunrath (según Karpenko, Purš y Žemla)PRINCIPAL

Las dos direcciones, dichas como recíprocas: «Like Gerhard Dorn, Khunrath is convinced that success in the transformation of metals depends on the inner transformation of the operating alchemist, but the reverse is also true: the production of the philosophers’ stone opens the way to the knowledge of God or directly to the ascent to him:» «Karpenko, Purš y Žemla — Khunrath in Context (Brill, 2025) · p. 24». Y la lectura de un solo lado, cerrada: «The analysis of the later shows that, as has been said, Khunrath cannot be regarded as a “spiritual alchemist” for whom alchemy was nothing but allegory.» «Karpenko, Purš y Žemla — Khunrath in Context (Brill, 2025) · p. 27».

Turba Philosophorum

«But know, all ye Philosophers, that I declare this in order that I may fortify your opinion concerning these four elements and arcana, as well as in the sciences thereof, at which no one can arrive save by the will of God.»

«Paracelso — Obras completas, trad. castellano · p. 79».

Heinrich Khunrath (según Karpenko, Purš y Žemla)

«According to Khunrath, understanding the essence of the alchemical Work – which is inextricably linked to the understanding of the initial matter, the way of its processing and the very goal of the work201 – happens through what he calls an “enthusiastic Kabbalah,” a special kind of divine inspiration, secret visions and spiritual revelations.» «Karpenko, Purš y Žemla — Khunrath in Context (Brill, 2025) · p. 69».

El fundamento que el tratado se da: «Upon such is based and founded the ART of the Philosopher's Stone ; for it originates in Nature, thence follows a natural end in a just form, through just and natural means.» «Splendor Solis, trad. inglés 1920 · p. 13».

El Tratado de Oro (Museo Hermético)

«why the foolish know it not. Foolish I call those who, without any previous knowledge of Nature and her properties, undertake to learn this Art, and come to it (as Arnold says) like the ass to the crib, not knowing for what they open their mouths.» «The Hermetic Museum, tr. Waite (1893) · p. 19».

Paracelso

«Paracelso — Obras completas, trad. castellano · p. 92».

Heinrich Khunrath (según Karpenko, Purš y Žemla)

El fuego del laboratorio como maestro: «He who has not diligently studied the fire that chymically teaches all the things in the laboratory, remains blind even to the natural and supernatural secrets of the light of nature …» «Karpenko, Purš y Žemla — Khunrath in Context (Brill, 2025) · p. 99».

Atalanta fugiens (Michael Maier)

Los Secretos Rosacruces (atribuidos a John Dee)

«And again, nature hath created a matter unto art, unto which art neither addeth anything nor taketh anything away, but removeth such things as are superfluous; likewise nature hath provided for us one Stone and one matter and one medicine, unto the which we, by our art, add no foreign thing, nor in any point diminish it, but in removing that which is superfluous in the preparation100, and this is done in the purification which is effected by solution.» «The Rosicrucian Secrets (atribuido a Dee) · p. 22».

Eirenaeus Philalethes (George Starkey, según Newman)

«Therefore first you must know, that we joyn kind with kind in our work, for Nature is mended and retained with its own Nature: for this cause is our King wedded to the Water-bearers Daughter . . . Wonder not at it, that a Queen should spring out of a Water-bearers loins, for the King is also his Son, and he is greater then both.» «Newman — Gehennical Fire (1994) · p. 71».

Isaac Newton (según William Newman)

«From this we see that Newton’s sources provided him with a twofold goal for studying the generation of metals from an alchemical perspective: on the one hand he had every reason to think that such knowledge was a requirement if one was going to succeed where nature itself had failed to arrive at complete perfection, and on the other, the very meaning of chrysopoetic chymists such as Sendivogius was inaccessible without a deep understanding of nature» «Newman — Newton the Alchemist (2019) · p. 183».

«I am therefore inclined to assume that the real root of alchemy is to be sought less in philosophical doctrines than in the projections experienced by individual investigators.» «Jung — Psychology and Alchemy (1944) · p. 262».

El don y la cadena conviven en la misma declaración: los adeptos son «an elect band of filii doctrinae, or “sons of art,” who had received the philosophers’ stone as a divine dispensation, a donum dei» «Newman — Newton the Alchemist (2019) · p. 49»; en Petrus Bonus los antiguos alquimistas eran profetas y el arte es donum dei «Newman — Promethean Ambitions (2004) · p. 100»; y en los cuadernos de Starkey los sabios dejaron el registro escrito y aun así hace falta «an immediate hand of god» «Starkey — Alchemical Laboratory Notebooks and Correspondence (2004), ed. inglés, con los originales latinos enfrentados 2004 · p. 276».
