«It is sothely a booke knowen, and it is cleped as I have said Liber Luna? wherein be the privityes of old wise men that were hid to all men.» — el texto define su contenido como las *privityes*, los secretos de los antiguos sabios, ocultas a todos los hombres: la obra se presenta como transmisión de un saber reservado.

«Alcox is the 18 mansion and the hart of Scorpio and it is fortuna az the face of Mercury When Luna descendeth in it make the workings of good and of bynding of tongs and of all silence.» — decimoctava mansión, Alcox, en el corazón de Escorpio: es la que ata las lenguas y produce el silencio, uno de los efectos que el aparato moderno cita como ejemplo de mala intención.

Horas planetarias — El tratado da un solo ciclo de doce horas de día y doce de noche válido «for whatever day thou wilt», frente a los libros que dan un ciclo por día de la semana; el suplemento de los folios 65-67v sí usa horas planetarias por día.

Secreto (lo que se jura no fijar por escrito) — El ocultamiento no es prudencia sino cláusula del propio libro: quien lo muestre responderá el día del Juicio, y la razón es que sirve igual para el bien y para el mal.

Tetragrammaton (el Nombre de cuatro letras) — El nombre inefable de cuatro letras funda el poder del libro en las dos versiones, y reaparece en las letanías latinas del apéndice junto a nombres griegos y voces sin sentido léxico.

Grimorio (libro de magia) — Skinner sitúa el volumen como relleno de huecos de los grimorios, y el apéndice trae el ritual completo de consagración de un libro dentro de la misa.

Evocación (llamar y constreñir espíritus) — El apéndice trae la consagración general de espíritus para llamarlos, atarlos, soltarlos, mandarlos y maldecirlos, con los orisones que los obligan quieran o no.

Cadena de transmisión (quién tomó de quién) — Karr traza la cadena del material desde fuentes persas e indias por el árabe y el latín hasta el inglés del siglo XVI, y advierte de que el hebreo no es el original sino otra traducción.

Crítica de fuentes (criterios de inclusión y descarte) — Karr coteja lecturas divergentes sin arbitrar, adjudica un nombre por paleografía (Kelinos por Belenus) y declara que no puede saber si los errores son del manuscrito o de Greenup.

Círculo mágico (circulus) — El libro se define por un círculo que no es de protección sino de alcance: el de la Luna, que abarca a los habitantes de la tierra, y al que sirven los ángeles que se invocan.
