Azufre (principio sulfúreo) — Es el alma de las cosas y una Fuerza Espiritual que ni el fuego ni el ácido destruyen; la extracción alquímica solo obra sobre su matriz de soporte, que hay que limpiar para hacerla transparente al paso de la energía. En el hombre es la consciencia superior, que el curso propone llamar hiperconsciente, y en el taller se comporta como supercatalizador.
Mercurio de los filósofos (Mercurius) — Enlace de los dos mundos, portador de los principios sutiles de la sal y del niter; ha de ser filosófico o deja de ser mercurio, y para la generación además espermático. Se identifica con Thoth y Hermes, abre el primer mundo mágico de Hod y sin él no hay disolución alquímica de los metales.
Cuatro elementos (fuego, aire, agua, tierra) — Pasan siempre en el mismo orden en toda destilación, fuego, aire, agua y tierra, y su equilibrio da la quintaesencia; en el experimento de control del poder de transmutación se manifiestan uno a uno por sonidos vibrados y se restituyen en orden inverso.
Quintaesencia (quinta essentia) — La simboliza el signo de Mercurio en el centro del círculo de los elementos y se produce por el equilibrio de los cuatro; la Piedra y el Elixir la dan por igual, con el azufre, el mercurio y la sal volatilizada de la planta.
Materia prima — El Catecismo la hace vapor húmedo salido del fuego central sobre la materia húmeda, único sujeto capaz de recibir formas, y la Oda la llama raíz única en la que están la plata y el oro en potencia.
Piedra filosofal (lapis philosophorum) — El volumen distingue piedras ordinarias y adúlteras y las reparte por el reino de donde sale la matriz; funden como cera sin humo, la genuina parte de Uno y la vegetal se prueba sobre una maceración de agua de lluvia. El hexagrama es uno de sus símbolos y la consciencia del Ser en el hombre.
Putrefacción (putrefactio) — Es la fermentación que los Antiguos llamaban así, primer mecanismo de evolución de la materia, y se provoca cuando el mercurio ya no puede unir alma y cuerpo y se libera por el alcohol volátil. La negrura es su señal en el Catecismo.
Albedo (la obra al blanco) — El blanqueo de la Sal de Azufre se lleva hasta un blanco más que la nieve, y el método se explica por la doble acción del alcohol y del elemento Fuego; entre las tres señales de proximidad de la meta está el blanco que domina cada vez más.
Iniciación (recepción por grados / metamorfosis del ser) — No es simbólica: modifica el nivel de consciencia y abre el conocimiento de la naturaleza, y exige tres elementos, algo de cábala, una idea de armonía y la teoría del arte. Procede por rearmonizaciones sucesivas y su parábola es la del príncipe desterrado que recobra sus prerrogativas.
Secreto (lo que se jura no fijar por escrito) — Funda su política de membresía abierta en el derecho de cada quien a su propia Verdad, declara no haber jurado secreto nunca y no exige juramento a los miembros; a la vez impone el silencio sobre las lecciones nocturnas con sanción declarada, y objeta que a menudo el que calla no tiene nada que decir.
Sefirot (las diez numeraciones) — Son los centros de energía repartidos por el cuerpo, del solar sobre la cabeza al de Saturno en la base de la columna; los números de uno a diez les dan polígono, estrella y metal, y el flujo interrumpido entre Biná y Yesod forma los problemas de salud.
Microcosmos (el hombre-mundo) — Los elixires de Mercurio crean en el hombre el enlace entre microcosmos y macrocosmos, y el hexágono de Tiféret es símbolo de esa unión.
Decknamen (nombres cubiertos) — El curso traduce el teñir de los Antiguos por transmutar, aclara que el vitriolo antiguo no es el ácido sulfúrico moderno, descifra las Lágrimas de Diana y el grabado del árbol horadado de Urbigerus, y manda no tomar nada al pie de la letra.
Magia Natural — Fija el saber mínimo del alquimista en teoría alquímica, magia natural y algunas reglas de astrología sagrada, y explica los poderes ocultos por la jerarquía de los cuatro mundos: quien accede a uno trasciende los inferiores.
Horas planetarias — Divide día y noche en doce horas desiguales que solo se igualan en los equinoccios, y da la tabla de las horas planetarias del sábado y de su noche, distinta de la secuencia de la semana.
Homúnculo (el hombre artificial) — El alkahest del reino animal se funda en que lo que pasa por el cuerpo de un hombre sano se vuelve filosófico, y el curso lo trabaja sobre la orina humana con preparación dietética del operador.
