Materia prima — El volumen la aborda por dos caminos que no armoniza: la lección 29 la deriva de gases elementales bajo energía etérea y la identifica con el nitrato de amonio o sal del rocío, y el texto rosacruz de la lección 30 la llama vapor impregnado de simiente metálica, aún indeterminado, engendrado por los astros en la matriz de la tierra. Urbigerus hace de esa indeterminación la definición misma de la ciencia hermética.

Mercurio de los filósofos (Mercurius) — El Mercurio simple y el duplex son el eje operativo de los aforismos de Urbigerus: se prueban gota a gota sobre planchas de cobre y de plata al rojo, se declaran menstruo perpetuo que ni pierde poder ni mengua, y se identifican con el alkahest de Paracelso. Becker lo llama Spiritus Vini philosophici y declara su preparación lo más secreto y peligroso de la química secreta.

Quintaesencia (quinta essentia) — Becker la define por dos notas —disolución del oro sin corrosivos y metal irrecuperable— y adjudica a Rupescissa llamarla Aurum Dei y parte del lapis, enteramente convertible en alimento; el texto de Paracelso da como término del antimonio la Quinta Essentia Antimonii, y el Oraculum nombra Quinta Essentia a la sal que coagula el mercurio en oro.

Azufre (principio sulfúreo) — La lección 28 lo deriva de la unión de Fuego y Aire y lo pone en la juntura de Atziluth con Briah; la lección 29 lo empareja con el carbono de la química moderna, y los aforismos de la Sal Universal lo ponen en el centro de la vida bajo la fórmula de lo dulce sulfúreo.

Cuatro elementos (fuego, aire, agua, tierra) — La lección 28 los reparte por los cuatro mundos de la Qabala y saca de sus combinaciones los tres principios; el texto rosacruz declara que el sujeto ya los contiene todos y prohíbe añadirle materia extraña.

Piedra filosofal (lapis philosophorum) — Ripley, citado por Becker, pone la clave de toda la química en el Menstruum foetens; los aforismos de la Sal Universal repiten el dicho de que la sal de los metales es la piedra de los filósofos, y la Sabiduría del Oraculum lo acota con la escasez de sal verdadera en la mena.

Putrefacción (putrefactio) — El texto rosacruz la data en ciento cincuenta días, con hedor de cadáver que atraviesa el tapón y colores cambiantes, y la nombra Cabeza de Cuervo; el comentarista de Urbigerus la funda en una regla que extiende a lo espiritual y a lo material: la naturaleza se enmienda por el sufrimiento y la muerte.

Nigredo (la obra al negro) — El texto de Hand espera la negrura como señal para pasar a la separación de los elementos; la tintura de antimonio de Paracelso pauta por decenas de días el paso del gris negruzco al blanco de plata y al rojo de cinabrio.

Albedo (la obra al blanco) — El texto rosacruz data en ocho o nueve meses la blancura y llama Medicina Blanca al producto en su primer estado; los aforismos de Urbigerus declaran perfecto el Elixir Blanco por tres señas —flexibilidad, blancura y fijeza— y le adjudican transmutar a plata.

Rubedo (la obra al rojo) — Los aforismos de Urbigerus pasan al rojo imbibiendo con el duplex sin dejar enfriar el vaso, contra la instrucción de Cramer que manda enfriar; el texto rosacruz describe la Medicina Roja brillando en lo oscuro como una brasa.

Anima mundi (alma del mundo) — El primer aforismo del texto rosacruz compone el alma humana y los espíritus racionales de Anima Mundi más facultad de razonar, y pone en el principio la creación del Espíritu Universal, llamado también Alma del Universo.

Spiritus mundi (espíritu del mundo) — El comentarista de Urbigerus adjudica a Mr. Clark el uso del Spiritus Mundi para volatilizar oro y a Urbigerus su desestimación para la Gran Obra; el addendum de atribución dudosa lo describe como humedad lunar impregnada de luz.

León verde (leo viridis) — Los aforismos de Urbigerus llaman Dragón Verde al oro natural vivo y generativo, opuesto al oro vulgar muerto por acabado, y hacen de él el sujeto indeterminado de la primera vía.

Sefirot (las diez numeraciones) — La lección 28 monta sobre los diez niveles de la Qabala la elección de elixires; la lección 39 cruza los diez oros del Aesch Mezareph con las Sephiroth y reparte por nivel las vías húmeda y seca; la lámina del Cielo Químico hace entrar la energía por Kether.

Iniciación (recepción por grados / metamorfosis del ser) — La lección 28 da la proporción elemental de los elixires del despertar iniciático; la lección 34 funda en un adagio que adjudica a Paracelso la condición de estar uno mismo transmutado, y la lección 33 niega la obra a quien no haya alcanzado la Sephira correspondiente.

Secreto (lo que se jura no fijar por escrito) — Becker adjudica al anatema sobre quien revelara el secreto una fuerza moral efectiva y consigna que el libro anunciado por Weidenfeld nunca salió; la lección 36 cuenta que las logias rosacruces hicieron desaparecer los ejemplares, y la lección 25 declara que no escribirá sobre el uso del aceite dorado de antimonio.

Decknamen (nombres cubiertos) — Becker lee la destilación del vitriolo de Basilio Valentín como encubrimiento del Spiritus Vini philosophici, y su introducción declara que los viejos escritos dan enteras las señas y solo callan la materia tras la alusión al vino rojo o blanco; Weidenfeld, citado por él, llama nombres fingidos a Sericon y Antimon.

Crítica de fuentes (criterios de inclusión y descarte) — Becker coteja tres lugares de Lulio que se contradicen sobre la calcinación y deja la discordancia sin resolver; la edición se abstiene de adjudicar el addendum entre el autor y Bacstrom, y conserva una nota que el propio Bacstrom había tachado y otra que él mismo declara errónea.

Cadena de transmisión (quién tomó de quién) — Los textos ajenos del volumen declaran su propia cadena: el de Becker es traducción inglesa vertida por un grupo de investigación, el último se dice copiado de un manuscrito anónimo en octavo comunicado por La Fountain y traducido del alemán en 1797, y el de Hand se declara comunicado de viva voz por un poseedor desde los papeles de Sigismond Bacstrom.

Microcosmos (el hombre-mundo) — Los aforismos de Urbigerus fundan la operación en la imitación del método del Creador al formar el macrocosmos, y llaman microcosmo filosófico a lo que se separa del Caos.
